Silkies from AHappyChick

These are the three Silkies I traded AHappyChick for for the Autumn Necklace. My neighbor Carmen named the roo Pumpkin, the pullets are Lovely (the light splash one—girl across the street named her), and America (Lee named her).

One-day-old Silkie Chick

Hatched Friday!

Thirteen hatched from this batch: two French Black Copper Marans (I think that’s what they’re called—some combination of those words, anyway), two Olive Eggers, a bunch of different colored silkies with a few pure whites—yay!, and three showgirls.

Day 8: Silkie & Serama Chicks

The chicks’ first day free, wandering on the patio. They mainly stayed within sight of my toes, but a few wandered off for a few moments before fluttering back to “safety”. Goddard stayed with them the whole time, making sure no one got hurt. What a good boy!

Lee wasn’t supposed to name this one, since we were fairly sure she’d die, but he did. She hung on for three days, though, a little fighter to the end.

First Hatch!

First black Silkie chick to hatch! Not the first, but the fourth of the bunch. These little babies were our “test” hatch to see if the incubator worked. It seemed borderline cruel and negligent, but I didn’t see another way. And they made it!

Showgirls Scheduled!

I’m actually guessing here, but these are the French Blue and Black Copper Maran, White and Lavender Silkie, and White Showgirl Silkie eggs I got for my mom. They’re eggs. They’ll hatch, feather out, and then we’ll know for sure.

The dark brown ones are Marans, but whether Blue or Black, I’ve no idea. Same goes for the Showgirls and Lavender (Self-blue) Silkies. AHappyChick from Backyard Chickens even threw in some pretty seafoam-colored eggs that will hatch out some “Easter Egg” chickens that will lay olive-colored eggs. We’re excited! They’re due November 19th.
